She has also taught in Canada at the University of British Columbia and the University of Waterloo.

Her academic pursuits culminated in a Ph.D. from the University of British Columbia in 2013. Prior to that, she earned a B.A. from Simon Fraser University in Canada and an M.Sc. (cum laude) from Maastricht University in the Netherlands.

Dr. Shaw’s literary debut, “The Memory Illusion,” published in 2016, became a bestseller translated into 20 languages. Her work inspired the 2021 TVnow German TV program “8 Zeugen,” where Alexandra Maria-Lara portrayed a character based on Dr. Shaw’s persona, Dr. Jasmin Braun. Dr. Shaw both advised and contributed to the program.

“Evil: The Science Behind Humanity’s Dark Side” marked her second international bestseller in 2019. Additionally, she initiated the award-winning BBC podcast “Bad People” in 2020, partnering with comedian Sofie Hagen, and launched the German AudioNow podcast “Böse” with Jazzy Gudd. Her insights into criminal psychology are frequently featured in her writing for the BBC and other reputable platforms.

Dr. Shaw is a vocal advocate for diversity and inclusivity. Her co-founding of Spot (talktospot.com) in 2017 stems from her commitment to promoting a healthy workplace culture. The insights gained from Spot directly informed her third book’s perspective on diversity and inclusion.

As a sought-after keynote speaker, Dr. Shaw often addresses topics such as memory manipulation, the nature of “evil,” workplace harassment, and the significance of bi-inclusion. She also provides expert advice on legal matters, particularly historical cases.
